Emergency Department (ED)

Monitoring EtCO2 in the Emergency Department is essential for immediate warning of hypoventilation, verification and vigilance of correct ET tube placement, and the evaluation of CPR efforts.

Non-intubated patients needing EtCO2 monitoring (such as asthmatic patients) can be easily checked as to their ventilatory status with bedside portable monitors.

ED applications of Microstream® include:
  • Verifying correct ET tube placement upon arrival, and for patients intubated in the ED
  • Evaluating CPR efforts and predicting outcome
  • Quickly determining ventilatory status of patients with respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, and CHF
  • Providing continuous EtCO2 monitoring to:
    • Assess effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
    • Comply with clinical standards that mandate EtCO2 monitoring during procedural sedations
  • Being alerted to respiratory depression from sedation, analgesia or an overdose.
